Systématique et évolution du genre Procervulus, cervidé (Artiodactyla, Mammalia) du Miocène inférieur d'Europe

1993
A new species, Procervulus ginsburi nov. sp., from the Lower Miocene of Spain (MN4, zone C of the Aragonian) is described. It appears as a distinct lineage from that of P. praelucidus (MN3)-P. dichotomus (MN4-5). In the constrast, the attribution of P. savignensis (MN3) to this genus is problematical. An evolution towards a more regular shedding of frontal appendages in procervuline lineages is noted, suggesting a correlation with climatic change from subtropical conditions in the Early Miocene to more temperate climate with increase seasonality during the Middle Miocene in Europe
