Start-up of Port-Jérôme CRYOCAP™ Plant: Optimized Cryogenic CO2 Capture from H2 Plants

2017
Abstract Air Liquide has developed a solution specifically tailored for CO 2 capture from H 2 production plant which is called CRYOCAP™ H 2 . This technology uses cryogenic purification to separate the CO 2 from the PSA offgas. Thanks to the use of membrane, H 2 recovery from syngas is also increased. The technology has been demonstrated at industrial scale with the start up of the first CRYOCAP™ H 2 plant at Port Jerome, France in 2015. Several key features were demonstrated: • The integration of the CRYOCAP™ H 2 unit within the existing H 2 production plant • The increase of H 2 production flow • The compression of fluctuating PSA offgas flow with a centrifugal compressor • The operation of the cold box near the triple point • The production of liquid food grade CO 2 Following the start-up of Port-Jerome plant, CRYOCAP™ H 2 technology combines a sufficient level of maturity and competitive CO 2 production cost making it an attractive option for large CO 2 capture plants.
