Synthesis and spectral properties of a new europium strontium oxide SrEu2O4

A new europium strontium oxide was synthesized by high-temperature solid state reaction of SrCO_3 with Eu_2O_3 in air.The new multiple oxide was characterized by use of XRD,TG/DTA and fluorescence spectra.The XRD results show that the molecular formula of the europium strontium oxide is SrEu_2O_4,whose structure is isostructural with that of BaEu_2O_4 reported earlier.The excitation spectrum of SrEu_2O_4 displays a broad double peaks band with one peak around 257 nm and the other(around) 280 nm.This broad band is attributed to the charge transfer transition of Eu~(3+)—O~(2-) bonds.Excited with a radiation of 280 nm,SrEu_2O_4 emits strong red light which is assigned to the()~5D_0→()~7F_2 electric dipole transition of Eu~(3+).
