Many technical processes are of such a complex nature that interconnection-oriented modeling concepts have to be used for their description. These models are composed of subsystems and coupling systems which describe the dynamical behaviour of single components and the coupling of the subsystems, respectively. The mathematical representation leads to systems of differential-algebraic equations. The aim of the article is to point out the connection between the differential-algebraic equations and the interconnection-oriented description of processes. Furthermore it is to show the consequences following from this relation with respect to a simulation
