Education and Well-Being

2020
Education has always had an important place in public policy. Unfortunately, during the past decades education policies have been inspired by the human-capital approach; this approach views the education sector as an instrument to provide skills and knowledge for people to be productive and competitive and to generate greater income. The educational sector is key in the promotion of skills and the provision of knowledge for well-being; however, by focusing too much in generating human capital the education sector risks reducing its potential impact on well-being.
