The Norwegian hearing in noise test.

2008
Preparation of test materials Approximately 900 natural sounding Norwegian sentences of 4 to 15 syllables were constructed for the preparation of the Norwegian HINT. Some sentences were translated from the American English HINT, others were found in children’s books or newspapers, and some were constructed from everyday sentences. The written form of Norwegian used was bokmaal, one of the official written standards. The vocabulary used was, as far as possible dialect neutral. Seven native Norwegian speakers rated each sentence from 1 to 5, with 1 being most unnatural and 5 being most natural. After the ratings, 200 sentences were excluded. Of the remaining 706 sentences, approximately 70% were scored as a 5 by all of the reviewers and 30% were scored as a 4 by one reviewer and a 5 by the rest of the reviewers. The sentences were recorded at the House Ear Institute using a native male speaker of Standard East Norwegian.
