Narcolepsy and HLA in the Federal Republic of Germany: Population and Family Data
1988
Fifty-nine unrelated narcolepsy patients as well as 14 families (01–14), including 16 patients and 44 healthy relatives, were investigated for MHC class I (HLA-A, B, C), class II (HLA-DR, DQ), and class III (BF, C4A, C4B) alleles. Glyoxalase-1 (GLO) was determined as an additional marker in family studies. For the population study, unrelated healthy individuals (class I, n=1329; class II, n=418; class III, n=408) served as normal controls. All methods used were described recently (Mueller-Eckhardt et al. 1986). Statistical evaluations were made with the X2 test with Yates’ correction. P-values were corrected for the number of antigens tested. Some of these results have been published elsewhere (Mueller-Eckhardt et al. 1986). They are presented here in more detail for comparison with data from other populations.
