Logistics Carriers for the First Lunar Outpost

1994
This paper describes that aspect of logistics concerned with the design parameters and operation of hardware that may be used to deliver and protect spares and resupply items for NASA's proposed First Lunar Outpost (FLO). In order to better understand the assumptions and issues dealing with FLO logistics, requirements for the outpost were analyzed and a strawman design of a system of logistics carries was generated. The potential set of major components of the FLO logistics system described in this paper are: the Mini-Environmentally Controlled Logistics Carrier (MECLC), the Mini-Unpressurized Logistics Carrier (MULC), the Sample Return Canister (SRC), and discussions on the larger Pressurized Logistics Module (PLM).
