Which are the factors and causes that lead to omalizumab withdrawal in severe asthma patients

The selection of the perfect candidate for biological treatment still represents a challenge for the clinician. Objective: -To know the causes of interruption of omalizumab (OMZ). -To compare the characteristics of patients in whom OMZ is withdrawn with respect to those who continue. Methods: Real-life, observational, unicentric study conducted from January to October 2017. Data were collected in our severe asthma clinic through the clinical history. Results: 56 patients were enrolled. Characteristics are shown in table 1 . Reasons for withdrawal are represented in figure 1 . Discontinuation of the OMZ was significantly relationated to smoking status, symptoms of rhinoconjunctivitis, obesity, inmunoglobulin (Ig)E, FVC and FEV1, and treatment with LAMA and oral corticosteroids ( Table 1 ). Conclusion: The main reasons for OMZ withdrawal were the lack of response and side effects. These patients were more frequently obese, former/current smokers, had lower levels of IgE, poorer functional capacity and more frequently require inhaled LAMA and oral corticosteroids.
