A method for controlling a powertrain in a vehicle stability (10) with a gear (14) and a control system (50), said method comprising: an activation signal is generated in response to a predetermined vehicle maneuver that triggers an activation of a controller for an anti-lock brake system (ABS controller) (21) wherein the predetermined vehicle maneuver a hard braking maneuvers on a wet, icy, oily or covered with pebbles surface with a low coefficient of friction comprises; by means of the control system (50) is executed in response to the activation signal a fast switch in a neutral gear state, comprising a rapid deflation or deriving a clutch pressure in a specific output clutch of the transmission (14); is determined by means of the control system (50), whether a current transmission mode is associated with a high level of drive train inertia; and fast switching is only performed automatically in the neutral gear state when the current transmission operation condition is associated with the high level of drive train inertia.
