(57) [Abstract] [Problem] To create microorganisms with improved energy efficiency, A method for producing a target substance using the same is provided. SOLUTION: In a method for producing a target substance using a microorganism, a microorganism is cultured in a medium, a target substance is generated and accumulated in the medium, and the target substance is collected. As the respiratory chain pathway, a mutant strain or a genetically modified strain created from a parent strain of a microorganism having an energy-efficient respiratory chain pathway and an energy-inefficient respiratory chain pathway and having one or both of the following properties is used. (A) the energy-efficient respiratory chain pathway is enhanced; (B) the energy-inefficient respiratory chain pathway is missing.
