The review reports the role of echocardiography in acute cardiovascular care. Current concepts of the ultrasound examinations and the possibility of their application in routine practice are provided. Clinical syndromes and diagnostic echocardiographic algorithms are discussed. The article would be of particular interest for cardiologists and intensivists providing acute cardiovascular care.
