The Effects of Chronic Hepatitis B Virus Infected Patients Superinfected with Hepatitis E on Clinical Outcomes

2011
Objective To investigate the influence of the clinical outcomes of patients with chronic hepatitis B superinfected hepatitis E virus. Methods 55 patients with chronic hepatitis B were divided into two groups:one group of 25 cases with chronic hepatitis B superin-fected hepatitis E virus, and the other group of 30 cases of simple chronic hepatitis B,the clinical features of the two groups were compared. Results In the HBV/HEV superinfection group the patients had deeper level of total serum bilirubin [TB(319.78 ± 153.94) μmol /L)],lower serum albumin [(33.39 ± 5.17) g/L],coagulation function deterioration [PTA(52.92 ± 28.04)%],the incidence of severe hepatitis(40%),the complication rate(32%) and the mortality rate(12%) were significantly higher than those in the simple hepatitis B group(P 0.05).Conclu-sion Superinfection of HBV and HEV can cause the activity of chronic hepatitis B and more severe hepatitis, higher mortality, more compli-cations and poorer prognosis.
