Highly Regioselective Synthesis of 1,3,5-Trisubstituted 1,2,4-Triazole Derivatives

The synthesis of 1,3,5-trisubstituted-1,2,4-triazoles is described. The key reaction is the thermal cyclization of an amidrazone intermediate with the aminal of an aromatic aldehyde. The method allows a variety of functionalities to be incorporated to add diversity to the initial templates.
