Cell Culture Confluency as a Potential Factor in Biological Effects of Millimetre Wave Radiation in In Vitro Experiments

2020
In in vitro experiments and related numerical simulations, dedicated to determine the incident power and energy absorbed, cell monolayer is considered to be thin and homogeneous, although in reality this is rarely the case. In this study, we consider cell culture confluency as a factor of the layer non-uniformity and the effect of this factor on electromagnetic field distribution within the cell layer. Results of simple case simulation demonstrated significant field concentration on the cell membrane as well as fast and dynamic temperature gradients.
