The article concludes that effective functioning and optimum operation of pipelines at the current level of scientific and  technological development are possible only in conditions of timely  obtaining, analyzing and summarizing information on the state of  sites at all stages of their lifecycle. The main tool for obtaining  information on the pipelines state is the constant and regular  monitoring of the dynamics of various operational parameters and  design characteristics. The monitoring is aimed at the use of the  results of observations to determine the technical state of both the  pipeline and the process equipment, as well as assessing and  forecasting the state of the environment. The obtained results are  analyzed in the information and analytical system, which ensures efficient and safe operation of pipelines, as well as reduces  the possible consequences of the environmental impact.
