Dumpster: Predictive Model to trade Bio-waste from Agricultural Lands

2020
In India, air pollution and waste disposal has become a major problem. According to a recent study by Harvard University, the burning of agricultural wastes by farmers due to their inability to transport it to biogas production plants situated at longer distances (since they are given only a little amount of money in exchange which is not even suffice for transportation charges) causes about 70% of air pollution (in India) leading to the death of about 1.2 million people in the Indo-Gangetic Plain. The agricultural waste can instead be used by companies that produce biogas, fertilizers, packaging fibers, adsorbents in the elimination of heavy metals and so on. The main aim of this mobile application is to facilitate the transport of waste and serve as an intermediate app between the farmers and all stakeholders who require this agricultural waste for beneficial production, to avoid the burning of agricultural wastes by the farmers. The application uses machine learning algorithm namely Linear Regression to estimate the amount of biogas which can be generated from the agricultural waste that farmers possess to predict their profit in trading waste through this app. It promotes their participation and helps them to predict the type of crop that can be planted based on the weather conditions. This app aims at reuse of bio-waste where exchange can happen within States and would facilitate farmers to avoid burning agricultural waste and hence decreases the environmental pollution and probably increasing the rate of employment also.
