Subject: Light knocking noise from rear shock area.

Condition: Customers may complain of a light knocking noise coming from the rear suspension when driving on rough roads. The noise may be coming from the upper rear strut mount bracket (insulator). New design upper strut mount brackets include raised pads as illustrated in figure 1 below. Diagnosis: Test-drive the vehicle with the customer if possible. Try to duplicate the noise complaint. Check all suspension components for wear, damage, and tightening torque. If these items check out good, or you determine that the noise is coming from the rear strut area as described, perform the repair procedure.
