Metal-Organic Framework-Derived MgO/Mg(OH)2@Nanoporous Carbon for High Thermal Energy Release

2020
Metal-organic framework (MOF)-derived metal oxide@nanoporous carbon (NC) has attracted increasing interest in recent years since nanoscale metal oxides can be well dispersed in carbon matrices. Herein, we report the synthesis of MOF-derived MgO/Mg(OH)2@NC, which shows high thermal energy release and storage through reversible chemical transformations. The reversible phase transition triggered by hydration and dehydration was confirmed by powder X-ray diffraction (PXRD). MOF-derived MgO@NC exhibits greater heat release compared to commercially available MgO because of its large surface area and homogeneous distribution of nanometer-sized MgO particles in the NC matrix.
