Experimental data improves prediction of Thirty Meter Telescope segment warping harness correction

To improve models of correction performance of the Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT) we studied primary mirror segment shape correction via warping harness control adjustment. We compared experimental measurements of warping harness influence functions and singular value decomposition modes on a prototype TMT segment to model predictions. We then applied the TMT control algorithm on-sky at the Keck Observatory during their segment exchange and warping activities and used these measurements to improve our warping harness control simulations. Altogether, these efforts have reduced risk through hardware demonstration.
