The Phenomena Occurring During the Formation of Diffusive Surface Layers on Steels Using PAMOCVD Method

2009
The prospects of the development of CVD methods lie in the use of organic compounds as the sources of the elements that form the surface layers in place of halides commonly used till now and in the electrical activation of the gaseous medium containing precursors of chemical reactions, which guarantees the formation of surface layers. The paper specifies the conditions under which the composite layers of the nitrided + Ti(NCO) type can be produced on high speed steel using a gaseous atmosphere of the organic titanium compound Ti(OiC 3 H 7 ) 4 and discusses the influence of the carbon and oxygen contents in the Ti(NCO) layer on its properties such as hardness and wear resistance. The mechanism of formation of the composite layers is also proposed.
