16S metagenomic assessment of the skin microbiota dynamic and possible association with the risk of infection in patients with epidermal necrolysis

Toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN) is a rare but severe acute life-threatening condition, mostly drug-induced, and characterized by a massive apoptosis of keratinocytes.1 Among complications, bloodstream infections (BSI) due to opportunistic pathogenous bacteria represent a significant proportion of the mortality rate, despite the meticulous hygiene measures associated with skin colonization monitoring, as recommended by British2 or French guidelines3 .
