This paper highlights some possible solutions to asphalt concrete rutting being experienced throughout Canada. In particular, it addresses severe rutting developed at two signalized intersections, the causes and cures. It proceeds to discuss the implementation constraints of traffic detours and concrete pavement placement under traffic conditions. Provides the rutting measurements, some pavement rehabilitation design solutions and life cycle costing analysis. Comments on the impact of profile geometry, intersection placement and the selection of pavement materials selection on long term pavement performance are presented. The contract document preparation to reduce concrete construction costs and the effective detouring of traffic on-site to reduce travel time delays and maintain access to existing commercial establishments during construction are discussed.
