Surveillance of injury in hospitals in Zhejiang province,2007

Objective To investigate the epidemiological features of injury in Zhejiang province,provide evidence for the effective prevention and control of injury. Methods Twenty eight sentinel hospitals were selected in 9 surveillance areas,and the unified record card was used to register new injury cases in these hospitals. Results A total of 44 460 injury case record cards were collected accumulatively in 2007. The sex ratio of injury cases was 1.80∶1(male: female),The people aged 15 to 44 years accounted for the largest part of the injury cases (57.77%). Worker,farmer/fisherman and farmer worker were the major populations affected. The first 4 injury sites were working place (28.25%),street (25.73%),home (26.35%) and road (10.37%);the first 4 injuries were caused by traffic accident (25.76%),falling down (25.40%),blunt strike (18.48%) and cut (11.41%);and the injuries occurred during work time and leisure time accounted for 36.75% and 36.11% respectively. Conclusion Injury is still a serious public health problem in Zhejiang province. The feasible prevention and control measures should be developed according to the surveillance results in order to decline the incidence of injury.
