LES OISEAUX HIVERNANTS DE LA BAIE DE L'ÉTOILE (NOUÂDHIBOU - MAURITANIE) ET DES SECTEURS PROCHES: 11 AU 20 DÉCEMBRE 2007

The Baie de l'Etoile is located in the northern sector of Cape Blanc near Nouâdhibou (northern Mauritania). This site was not ornithologically well known before. It proved to be an important wintering area for waterbirds we censused from 11 to 20 December 2007. Data are given on bird distribution in that area. Several interesting records have been performed (third west Palearctic record of Abyssinian Roller Coracias abyssinicus, first record in Mauritania of Red-breasted Flycatcher Ficedula parva...). Urban pressures and non-sustainable fisheries threat this important area and urge the creation of a marine protected area and a designation as a RAMSAR site.
