A chalcone derivative single crystal for the investigation of linear and nonlinear optical properties for laser assisted applications

2020
An organic nonlinear optical material which possesses third order nonlinearity has been grown by slow solvent evaporation technique at room temperature. The structural, linear optical and nonlinear optical properties of 4-[(1E)-3-(4-chlorophenyl)-3-oxoprop-1-en-1-yl]phenyl-4-methyl-benzene-1-sulfonate (4CPMS) have been studied. The 1H-NMR study was used to characterize the structural properties. The 4CPMS crystal belongs to P1¯ space group with triclinic crystalline system. The linear optical absorption spectrum of 4CPMS exhibited wide transparency in the Visible / near IR region and photoluminescence spectra showed the blue light emission property. The Nd:YAG laser with 532 nm was used for analyzing nonlinear absorption coefficient and nonlinear refraction of 4CPMS material. This material exhibits reverse saturable absorption as a result of two photon absorption.
