Interaction of convergent shocks in condensed media

1985
Loading of cylindrical specimens by sliding detonation waves is used in the case of explosive pressing and compressing of substances in conservation ampoules. A convergent conical wave is formed in the specimens in such a loading method, and a Mach disc at the cone apex sometimes results. Formationof the Mach disc was observed in Plexiglas, glass, water, aluminum, and NiO and NaCI powders [1-3]. The build-up of a stationary wave configuration being propagated along the axis of symmetry at the shell detonation velocity Do occurred during a certain time in the substances listed. The detonation wave energyis used as an instrument to produce the necessary states in the substances in all the cases mentioned.
