The paper presents a non-destructive method for rapid assessment of the quality of the edges of the cutting tool that basis on the theory of frictional engagement surface of the cutting blade with the surfaces on the workpiece and chips. The aim is to normalize the geometrical parameters of the indenter to be used in assessing the quality of the edges of the cutting tool based on a mathematical model of power load of the indenter and the solution of a multi-criterial optimization problem. We propose a method of dimensioning of the indenter in the form of a rod with a rounded end surfaces for experiments on the research facility that basis on vertical milling machine 6R 12.
