Observation of baryons with large transverse momenta in interactions of the nuclei p, d, He, and C with Ta nuclei at momentum 4. 2 GeV/c per nucleon
1983
In interactions of the relativistic nuclei p, d, He, and C with Ta nuclei we have observed the production of baryons with large transverse momenta exceeding the kinematic limit for nucleon-nucleon collisions. The experimental results are compared with the predictions of the cascade model regarding the yield of baryons with large p/sub perpendicular/. These predictions do not agree with the experimental data. Taking into account the fusion (coalescence) of nucleons improves the agreement with experiment, but even in this case it is not possible to achieve a satisfactory description of the data.
