Deep core ionic photofragmentation of the CF2Cl2 molecule

2012
Abstract The photoexcitation and photoionization of the dichloro-difluoromethane, CF 2 Cl 2 , molecule have been studied for photons with energies around the Cl K edge at 2829.6 eV, using time-of-flight multicoincidence techniques with synchrotron radiation. Total and partial photoion yields for the fragmentation products have been recorded as a function of the incident photon energy. The atomic chlorine ion, Cl + , has the greatest intensity below the Cl K edge, while the fluorine ion, F + , dominates the mass spectra above the resonance. It is shown that the CF 2 Cl 2 molecule undergoes a complete break up with the formation of doubly charged C 2+ , Cl 2+ , and F 2+ fragments.
