Conformation of polyphenylsilsesquioxane molecules

1984
Abstract A study was made of the conformational behaviour of polyphenylsilsesquioxanes in solution; optimum methods were found for evaluating conformation parameters in these compounds. Causes were examined which result in the formation of two types of structure. The dual structure of polyphenylsilsesquioxane molecules is formed at the stage of hydrolytic condensation and at the stage of anionic polymerization in the presence of an alkaline initiator molecules are re-arranged. The type of the process has a significant role in the formation of molecules of the type examined. To evaluate rigidity parameters of polyphenylsilsesquioxanes, the Yamakawa-Fujiti equation modified by Bogdanecky is the most satisfactory in a wide range of M.
