Development of Maintenance Support System for Wayside Workers
2002
A system is proposed for central traffic control measures to automate safety and support systems for wayside workers by providing them with continuous information about the location of trains in their system. Most maintenance crews are protected by human efforts and the use of safety manuals, and so, most accidents involving wayside workers are due to human error. Describes the transmission system for train information to wayside work sites, which consists of a server, a station transmission device, a repeater station, a portable control device, which connects the wayside workers with the server and its system, and an alarm. Gives specifications for the wire and radio telecommunications systems involved and the integration of the detection information with the wayside phone information. The entire system is a multi-media mobile access communication system, which can be used for wayside safety, but also for other transmission requirements too.
