AN APPLICATION OF LOCATION-BASED SERVICES TO AN INTELLIGENT WHEELCHAIR ROBOT

2006
At the EXPO 2005 AICHI JAPAN, many robot demonstrations were featured as part of the NEDO project for the practical application of next-generation robots. FUJITSU LTD, AISIN SEIKI CO. LTD., and AIST jointly developed an intelligent wheelchair robot, 'TAO Aicle' and undertook several demonstration experiments at the EXPO. TAO Aicle can accurately determine its position and direction, and travels to its destination autonomously. Location-based service (LBS) technology was applied to support the robot's control and information provision functions. Mechanisms are introduced that allow TAO Aicle's autonomous operation, supported by LBS, and report the results of the experiments. For the covering abstract see ITRD E134653.
