Variability in mineral profile in seven varieties of bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) adapted in North East of Mexico

2002
The present study was undertaken to understand the mineral contents of seven bean varieties (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) for the selection of lines adapted in semiarid conditions. The treated samples were analysed by Plasma Emission in order to determine the contents of Mg, Na, K, Ca, Mn, Cu and Zn, The results showed variability in mineral contents among varieties. The variety Bayo presents a very high value of Mg, Na, K, Ca, Mn and Cu, This permits to consider that the variety has greater possibilities of adaptation to adverse condition in the semiarid regions.
