Acidic Property of Fe (III) -Taeniolite

2005
Fe3+-exchanged synthetic taeniolite (Fe/LTN) was prepared in order to prepare acid sites in the interlayer of lithium taeniolite (LTN) and the acidic property was characterized by various methods. It is concluded that isolated Bronstead acid sites are predominantly formed in the interlayer of Fe/LTN. Catalytic activity for the hydrolysis of ethyl formate varies with the Fe content and the highest activity is obtained for Fe/LTN with FR=1.0 (FR= mole ratio of Fe3+fed to cation exchange capacity (CEC) of LTN) . The data of 15N CP/MAS NMR, FT-IR and pyridine-TPD obtained in the presence of water evidently demonstrate that the Bronstead acid sites are produced by the intercalated cations and stable up to 400°C.
