Anaesthesia for Awake Video – Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery

2014
In the recent decade, nonintubated video-assisted thoracoscopicsurgery (VATS) has been extensively performed and evaluated.Perioperative anaesthetic management presents itself as a freshissue for the iatrogenic open pneumothorax, which is intended forunilateral lung collapse to create a steady surgical field, and theensuing physiologic derangement involving ventilatory and hemodynamicperspectives. With appropriate monitoring, meticulousemployment of regional anaesthesia, sedation nonintubated VATS isproved to be a safe alternative to the conventional intubated generalanaesthesia. High-risk patients for intubated general anaesthesia aregood candidates for this minimally invasive approach.
