Synthesis and assembly of ribosomal protein into 50 s subunits during recovery from methionine starvation

1970
Abstract During recovery of Escherichia coli from methionine starvation, preferential synthesis of ribosomal protein—over soluble protein—occurs. The data obtained indicate that (i) marked variation occurs among the rates of synthesis of individual 50 s ribosomal proteins, (ii) the ribosomal split proteins are synthesized to the greatest extent and (iii) the relative rates of synthesis of individual ribosomal proteins are similar to the rates observed early during recovery from chloramphenicol treatment.
