A New Method of NC Interpolation for Machining the Sculptured Surface

Summary This study presents a new method for NC interpolation which greatly reduces the amount of information when the tool path is defined by Bezier's curve. In this method, the interpolation is easily done by the operations of adding, bit shift, and table reference in a microcomputer or a specially made hardware. This method can also generate some tool paths between two adjacent paths if necessary. The validity of the method has been proven by test cutting with a machining center. The method proposed can be used to generate pulses in a new high speed NC controller for continuous motion.
