Caracterização de Pseudomonas syringae pv. em tomateiro no Brasil e reação de cultivares/genótipos de tomateiro a esse patovar e ao patovar tomato

2002
Plants of tomato ( Lycopersicon esculentum  Mill.) showing leaf spots were observed in a crop located in the county of Patos de Minas, State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. These spots were usually dark brown, rounded, with a diameter which could extend to about 1 cm and did not have chorotic, yellow haloes. The lesions very often coalesced and formed large, irregular, necrotic areas. A fluorescent pseudomonad which belongs to group Ia (LOPAT + - - - +) was isolated from the infected areas. Biochemical, cultural, fisiological and pathogenicity tests were also developed utilizing two P. syringae pv. tomato strains for comparison. The bacterium isolates produced acid from erythritol, utilized DL-lactate but not D(-) tartrate and were characterizated as  Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae.  In artificial inoculations under greenhouse conditions the cultivars/genotypes Ângela, Santa Clara, XPH 5978, XPH 5979, XPH 12068 and Brigade exhibited resistance to the pathogen. Bacterial strain was deposited in IBSBF Culture Collection under accession number 1012.
