Cierre de fístula palatina recurrente con el uso de plasma rico en factores de crecimiento

Palatal fistulas frequently occur as a complication of primary surgical closure of cleft palate, requiring, on average, three to four surgeries for correction. Due to the high rate of recurrence of this disease, and the resultant costs to health systems and risk of disability for patients, we decided to look for alternative methods of management with better chances of success. We considered that the use of plasma rich in growth factors would be a good option, which, although it has never been used in the closure of palatal fistulas, has been used successfully in maxillofacial surgery. We report the case of a 15-year-old male patient who had undergone surgery four times –without success– to close the palatal fistula. The patient was operated using plasma rich in growth factors, obtaining complete closure of the fistula and now, after two and a half years, there are not recurrences. We consider that the use of plasma rich in growth factors is a useful alterative in the treatment of palatal fistula closure that can of fer advantages over conventional treatment.
