Adsorption of nitrogen monoxide on iron oxides supported on various supports and its carrier effects

1988
The adsorption of nitrogen monoxide on iron oxides supported on various metal oxides (titania, alumina and silica gel) has been studied by i.r. spectroscopy. The application of bandshape analysis to the severely overlapping bands using a small computer system has provided quantitative information for the surface NO species. Two types of adsorbed species of NO (bent and linear) are present as strongly adsorbed species. Fe2+ ions formed by the reduction act as active sites for nitrogen monoxide adsorption. On Fe2O3/Al2O3 and Fe2O3/TiO2, Fe2+ ions remain on the surface in the oxidized state and are stabilized in compounds such as FeAl2O4 and FeTiO3.
