Phonon dispersion in vanadium metal

Abstract The feasibility of application of the neutron scattering technique for experimental determination of phonon dispersion in vanadium metal is investigated. It is demonstrated that one-phonon scattering from individual phonon branches can be measured using a three-axis spectrometer in spite of an extremely unfavourable ratio of coherent-to-incoherent neutron scattering cross sections for vanadium.
