The answer lies beneath the surface

2004
During floor assessment and testing, most attention is generally paid to surface conditions. End-users are understandably focused on aesthetic aspects such as colour, surface crazing and minor delamination, which are of little structural significance. Yet it is the sub-surface conditions that have most impact on the structural capacity of the floor. Some flooring professionals do not pay sufficient attention to checking load transfer capacity, variations in slab thickness or the strength of supporting materials.
