Self-timed control of two-phase switched capacitor converters

2016
The paper considers the shoot-through currents in two-phase switched capacitor converters (SCCs) as switching hazards. Despite the fact that the existing control circuits provide safe operation, there is no formal method to synthesize such circuits for multiphase SCCs. Besides that, the existing circuits are synchronous and therefore do not sustain large changes in the operating conditions. The paper shows how one can use a CAD tool for designing asynchronous circuits to synthesize an SCC controller and thereby alleviate both of the above-mentioned drawbacks. The obtained circuit is self-timed, i.e. does not require external clock and has low sensitivity due to inherent negative feedback.
