Agroecology – Interpretations, Approaches and Their Links to Nature Conservation, Rural Development and Ecotourism

2011
Different interpretations and definitions of agroecology are currently used world-wide. They vary from agroecology as a practice, agroecology as a movement, and varying approaches to agroecology as a scientific discipline, which are the plot/field, the agroecosystem, and the food system approach. The evolution of the interpretations and definitions are often closely linked to differences in the historical development of agroecology in different countries and regions of the world. More and more topics have become related to agroecology in recent years. In the second part of this review, we analyse and discuss the integration and linking of rural development, nature conservation and ecotourism, both within and to the framework of agroecology.
