Effect of selected processing parameters on the key properties of solvent-cast polyimides for optical waveguides

The relationship between the key processing parameters and properties of interest for the fabrication of integrated optical devices are examined for four representative polyimide materials. Methods for estimating and controlling both the film thickness and refractive index profile of polyimide films (including experimental verification) that have proven successful in a variety of applications are presented and discussed.
