Acid formation by mixed cultures of dental plaque bacteria Actinomyces and Veillonella.

Abstract The metabolism of glucose by mixtures of resting cells of Actinomyces and Veillonella resulted in propionic and acetic acids. Lactic and succinic acids produced by Actinomyces from carbohydrates were further degraded by Veillonella , thus forming a food chain.
