EnglishThe Iberian plate represents a challenge within the paleogeographic puzzle. Its location is strategically positioned for the global kinematics of plates, especially during the opening of the Atlantic Ocean and the Bay of Biscay . Reliability of available Iberian paleomagnetic poles is discussed here. Using free software (GPlates, GMAP) of lithospheric and mantle dynamics modelling, different construction methods of the "Apparent Polar Wander Path" (APWP) for the Iberian plate are performed and evaluated since Permian times. In addition, reconstruction of Iberian plate kinematics is analyzed following two distinct, current plate-circuits models; and also the compilation of Iberian paleomagnetic poles. Results show the need of re-examining the available paleomagnetic data for the Iberian plate as well as the need for obtaining new, quality paleomagnetic poles.
