Behan Back on Booze Binge

Brendan Behan, Ireland’s gifted, irrepressible playwright, ended his dry run yesterday. He resumed his favourite true life role last night in the Cort Theatre, where his play The Hostage is running. He was beautifully biffed and the audience loved it. The stage manager didn’t. Repeating a performance which knocked them dead in London in July 1959, Behan invaded the Cort and took the play away from the actors.
