Translate the base table of memories

A method comprising: receiving a request for access to a desired memory block, wherein the request includes an effective address, the effective segment ID (ESID) and a linear address, wherein the linear address having a most significant portion and a byte index; Locating an entry in a buffer, the entry contains the ESID of the effective address; Performing the requested access to the desired memory block on the basis of the entry that includes a base page table pointer (RPTP), using the RPTP to find a translation table of a hierarchy of translation tables, using the retrieved translation table for translating the most significant part of the linear address in order to obtain an address of a memory block, and on the basis of the address obtained.
